Narya: calc hides an internal bug raised by its forward check

calc's error handler accepts any diagnostic, even internal bugs, from the forward check. If the reverse check passes, the internal error is never shown to the user.

This should also be done by other "backtracking" constructs like First, so it may be worth pulling out into a helper function.
